Mind Your Own Womb

A good friend shared this link with me: Mind Your Own Womb

This post hit really close to home.  As most of you know, I have recently changed jobs and moved across the Wasatch Front.  I hate that people make motherhood and kids a part of everyday conversation when they are first meeting you. I know that people are just trying to get to know me, but it is an extremely loaded question and quite frankly, none of their God Damn business!

The question that I have been asked a lot is: "Is it hard to work in Labor and Delivery when you don't or can't have kids?"  This question really pisses me off.  First, do you not think that this is something I considered myself before I accepted the position and moved my family half way across the state.  Second, it is completely ignorant of you to think that I am jealous of every patient who walks through those doors and has a baby.  Third, if you knew me at all, (obviously you don't if you have asked me this question), then you would know that this isn't even an issue.  I love my job and that is completely independent of my infertility issues and is never an issue.

I would recommend going to this link and thinking twice before making a totally ignorant comment.  You never know what people are going through in life.  Just because I do not have human children does not mean that I am not a mother.  I am a mother to my fur babies.  I am a mother figure to my nieces and nephews.  I am also a mother figure to other people's children.  A mother isn't just someone who has children.  A mother is a role model.

Rant over...drop the mic!
